Q

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTED?

A

Payments can be cash or credit. We use Square Reader for credit card transactions. Receipts are issued upon payment.

Q

IS THERE A MINIMUM OR MAXIMUM AGE OR SIZE TO PADDLE?

A

Currently, age 13 is the minimum age on our boards.  Younger children can paddle successfully, but child-specific boards are recommended to ensure a positive experience. All minors require parental permission on a waiver form.  As long as you are in reasonable good health, there is no reason why anyone of any age cannot paddle.  Our boards can handle up to 250 lbs.

Q

WHAT IS SUP?

A

Essentially, SUP is standing on a stable paddleboard while using a single paddle to propel yourself through the water.  SUP provides a full body workout and is done recreationally for touring, fitness, and yoga. SUP racing is a huge industry worldwide, with athletes competing in distance, sprint, surf, and river competitions.

Q

IT LOOKS LIKE A SURFBOARD. DO I HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO SURF?

A

Not at all, but you must know how to swim. You will be tethered to your board with an ankle leash and must be able to swim a short distance to remount your board. A Canadian Coast Guard approved PFD and a whistle will be supplied and are mandatory.

Q

WHERE DO I GO FOR MY LESSON?

A

Kingston and area has numerous launch sites. You will be advised of your meeting place; they vary based on wind and wave conditions present. See “Looking for a Launch Site?” in our map area. Look for a black Pathfinder and white trailer with a stoked instructor to take you on the water! Please arrive 15 min early.

Q

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

A

Bring your fully completed waiver form, a swimsuit, board shorts, quick dry athletic top (not cotton), hat, sunscreen, towel, and water bottle. In the late Fall please be prepared with warmer gear or a wetsuit, booties, hat, gloves etc. Also, if you wear glasses, be sure to have a lanyard (strap) so that they stay on! (See ‘What to Bring’ under Lessons Tab.) Do not bring a cell phone (unless in a waterproof case), camera (unless waterproof), or expensive sunglasses.

*SUP Kingston is not responsible for lost or stolen items while in lessons.

Waiver forms can be downloaded at the bottom of the lessons page – Click here

Q

WHAT ABOUT ADVERSE WEATHER AND WIND CONDITIONS?

A

Sometimes, due to adverse weather or wind conditions, we may have to cancel or change the location of your lesson.  In the event that we are unable to paddle safely, we will reschedule your lesson immediately. We will contact you in advance should the weather not be ideal. Lessons still run in light rain and wind.

Q

I WANT TO BUY MY OWN BOARD FOR YOUR CLASSES. HOW MUCH DOES A PADDLEBOARD COST?

A

High quality boards equate to excellent performance, longevity, and good return for your investment. Size and type of board (all-round, inflatable, touring, wave, race) dictates pricing, and ranges from $1200 (kids or inflatables) to approx. $3000 for full carbon race boards. The Jimmy Lewis Cruise Control all round boards used in our lessons are approx. $1800 depending upon size chosen. (See “Gear” Tab for models and call us for prices).

Q

DO YOU RENT YOUR SUP BOARDS?

A

No. Lessons and SUP Sessions provide 1.5 hours of time on SUP Kingston equipment with an instructor. Free exploration is part of this time.To gain additional on-water time, sign up for SUP Socials or additional SUP skills courses. (Click here)
